Youth and Children’s Ministries
The continued spiritual education and formation of our children and youth is one of the hallmarks of our parish. Through Sunday classes, fellowship gatherings and special projects, youth are engaged to study and reflect on Scripture as they develop a growing sense of how to shape their lives according to Christ’s teachings and examples.
Children and youth are always welcome during worship at Christ Church. Infants and children under age five are also welcome in our nursery, where our staff attendants provide a safe, stimulating environment in which the youngest members of our congregation can play, learn, and rest. Nursery care is also provided during special events and formation programs.
Children in kindergarten through fifth grade begin formalized faith exploration in Godly Play, a curriculum based on the recognition that children possess innate faith and require only language to express, explore, and enhance it. The Godly Play approach helps children recognize God’s presence in their lives and connect it to their daily experiences. Godly Play is a creative, inventive way of preparing children to join in the worship and life of their congregations as they develop a deeper understanding of stories, symbols and rites.
Rising six, seventh, and eighth graders focus on celebrating the individuality of each young person and his creative potential in their section of Journey to Adulthood. High school students are invited to join their peers in the later sections of Journey to Adulthood, where they use critical thinking and individual skills to examine the challenges of adulthood. The youth plan and embark on a pilgrimage together during this time, which many later consider a landmark in their journey of life-long formation. They also discern and carry out a ministry within their church or the larger community. Vocation and development of a personal credo are also emphasized. Journey to Adulthood is an amazing time, during which our older students begin their transition from childhood to adulthood and prepare to go out into the world as ambassadors of Christ.

AcolyteAcolytes join our clergy, lectors, lay Eucharistic ministers, ushers, the choir, and other musicians as they lead worship at Christ Church. Being an acolyte provides children and young adults with the unique opportunity to gain a deeper exposure to the rites of the church, and to expand their participation in the worship service.
