Christ Church is committed to making a difference in our local community and in the world beyond, mobilizing volunteers and resources to meet needs in Savannah, and in places as far away as Belize. Christ Church’s current outreach projects focus on healing the sick, feeding the hungry, and sheltering the homeless.
Project SmileProject Smile is a prevention-oriented dental program for indigent children (ages 4 -14) which began in 1992 as a cooperative effort between the Episcopal Diocese of Georgia and the Anglican Diocese of Belize in Central America. Every year, various teams of volunteer dentists, along with auxiliary personnel, travel the St. Mary the Virgin Anglican Church in Belize City where the team works in a permanent seven chair dental treatment facility in an unused classroom at St. Mary’s School. Thomas Park Food Pantry The Thomas Park Food Pantry, in operation for nearly 20 years, was established as a small ministry and operated by St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Today, it is a much larger enterprise assisted by several other parishes. The first year of its operation the pantry provided a total of 150 bags to those needing assistance; it currently distributes nearly 300 eight-to-ten pound food bags on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month. Interfaith Hospitality NetworkThe Interfaith Hospitality Network of Savannah provides shelter, meals, and support services to homeless families with children. For one week, several times each year, our parish house becomes their “home.” Hosting guests requires parish volunteers to prepare meals, help children with homework, and be available for conversation and encouragement. Families stay safely and securely in area church facilities while working to regain self-sufficiency. Read More
Chatham-Savannah Citizen Advocacy Chatham-Savannah Citizen Advocacy is a 31-year-old community based non-profit organization that recruits, matches and offers support to over 100 local citizens in voluntary citizen advocacy relationships.
