Virginia T. Maxwell

Virginia Maxwell was born in Augusta, Georgia, where she was baptized, confirmed, and married in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.  In 1954, Virginia married the Reverend George M. Maxwell, our Rector Emeritus.  That same year she also graduated from Hollins College.  She and Father Maxwell moved to Savannah in 1973, when he became Christ Church’s 39th rector.  Together, they have three grown children (two of whom are Episcopal priests and one who works in real estate) and eight grandchildren.  She has been active in the Junior League, the Red Cross, and the Trustees’ Garden Club; Virginia also helped establish a day care center for the children of migrant workers.  After Father Maxwell retired from the active ministry in 1990, Virginia remained active in all aspects of the life of our Church, including teaching Sunday school, serving on the altar guild, and serving as a Lay Eucharistic Minister.
