Montie Acuff, a lifelong Episcopalian, was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma and is an alumnus of Agnes Scott College.  Montie moved to Savannah in 1978.  She is married to D. Stephen Acuff, D.D.S., with whom she has two grown sons.  Together, the Acuffs started Project Smile, a dental mission in Belize which has treated over 8,500 children since 1992.  Montie is a past board member for the Bethesda Home for Boys and currently serves as the board president of Interfaith Hospitality Network.
